Jaron Cox- Band Director
I was born and raised in Oxford, NC. I graduated from J. F. Webb High School in 2007. I went to East Carolina University as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow to pursue a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a with a concentration in Percussion, which was completed in May 2011. After completing my undergraduate degree in Music Education, I enrolled again at East Carolina University to pursue a Masters of Education in Instructional Technology, which was completed in May 2014. I began working at J. F. Webb High School as a full-time Director in Fall 2012 in which I was the Head of Music Department, Director of Bands and Choirs, and the General Music Teacher for 5 years. I was the Director of the J. F. Webb Marching Warrior Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band, two Choirs, Winter Drumline, Pep Band, Brass Ensemble, and I taught two Music Appreciation classes. I have had many students perform in the annual Tri-County Honor Band. Three of my students were selected to play in the Virginia Tech Honor Band, out of 1500 students from eight states. During my first year teaching, I was the only High School Band Director in the nation to be selected as the recipient of the 2012-2013 Tunes for Tots Grant for over $115,000.00 in instruments and musical equipment/technology. I started working as the Full-time Band Director for Middle School Bands and High School Bands at Falls Lake Academy in Fall 2017. I look forward to using my musical experiences and teaching experiences to help build the Music Department at Falls Lake Academy.
Along with being the Middle School Band Director and High School Band Director, I will also be serving as an Instructional Technologist for the campus to help teachers with technology integration in the classroom. I will be here to help others find different methods/technologies/instructional tools/websites to use as instructional materials in their classrooms. I have had previous experience leading and helping to plan professional development sessions for the classroom environment. I feel that the key to understanding new ideas and technologies is Communication and Collaboration. In order to teach someone something new, you have to communicate to them on their level, and you must be willing to collaborate with others to get new ideas and understandings of different concepts.
When I am not working at school, I will most likely be spending time with my wife, Carly Cox, and my two cats, Rogue and Gambit, or working on writing music at home or in the recording studio. I am a professional singer/songwriter in the genre on Christian Rock/Metal, in which I released my first professional EP in May 2017 on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, etc. I enjoy creating music that will hopefully change people’s lives or make a positive impact on someone’s life.
