Cynthia Blake - 6th Grade Science
Well hello there! Thank you for asking about me! I am incredibly excited to be a part of Falls Lake Academy this year! Let me tell you a bit about me.
I earned my BS in Middle School Science Education from North Carolina State University. However, I am certified to teach middle school science and math. My first teaching assignment was in the 6th grade at Springfield Middle School in Wilson, NC. There I taught 6th grade math, science, & health. From there I came back to teach in Granville county at Northern Granville Middle school where I spent twelve years teaching 7th grade science, a few classes of reading, and as much math as I could within my science curriculum. I then joined others to help transform Mary Potter Intermediate School into Mary Potter Middle School in its opening year, 2008, taking on 7th grade math and science. I got "promoted" to the 8th grade in 2009, still teaching math and science. The following two years, I taught 8th grade math, Algebra I and Math I. In the fall of 2013 I reverted back to my first love, science, and joined the 6th grade team.
More recently, 2016 found me wanting to try something new. So Falls Lake has become my new home, teaching 6th grade science class. I am National Board Certified in Middle School Science Education and have been a part of several prestigious programs created and managed by NCSU and The Friday Institute. Considered co-faculty, I was asked to model inquiry based teaching to student-teachers at NCSU using my own middle students over a course of two years. I have also presented at the North Carolina Science Conference and been a speaker before audiences of political and high ranking educational figures on behalf of teachers and the craft of innovative teaching. I have received grants and teaching awards. I continue to work with other schools and administrators on various technology projects.
I love to learn and do all I can to keep stay current and energized in my own constant pursuit of knowledge. I am an avid fan of technology and integrate it into my class as often as it is appropriate. I enjoy my job and my students. You can find everything you need to know about my class by visiting my SCIENCE STUFF page.
I was born, a native of Granville County and am a product of both Granville and Vance county schools. Hence this area and its people are important to me. I am married and have a daughter and a son and usually, a pet or two. When I’m not at school, I’m usually working on my many techno-projects, creating something, watching my kids play ball, or reading a book. I am constantly seeking new challenges, and I really love what I do!
